That would be true if the intake mounting was exactly 90 degrees to the head surface. Unfortunately thats often not the case.
In addition, consider the intake bolt hole location relative to the end seal. Every milling will move the bolt holes closer to the crankshaft. When you try to put the bolts in, you naturally angle them trying to catch the threads. As they try to "pull straight" they put quite a load on the intake, pulling it into a distorted shape. I've seen bolt bosses on FE intakes cracked from this. |
