Thanks Travis for taking the time to check this out for me.

Interesting isn't it, that in reality, Ford did not offer the HP 390/375 or 401 horse engine with an automatic trans? It was stick or nothing for HP apps.

I heard somewhere that Don Sauer's '61 was classified as a 390 - 330 horse Police package engine thus making it legal. Do you know anything about that? And it was a cruisomatic! Long before the vaunted C-6.

The reason I asked about the Potter Bros. '61 is that they are local legends here to us Ford fans. They did set some regional records, i.e., Arlington, WA. I haven't got anything at hand but their times were in the low 13's/100's. I've got a great black & white glossy of them being congratulated by a local Ford dealer, Chud Wendle, upon their recent tour of the Nortwest. The '61 Starliner looks great with white wall slicks, a Falcon rear bumper in place of the '61 full size front bumper, a tow bar and a hood covered with trophies - not for show but for go.

A friend may have just acquired the Potter Bros. actual '61 last week. It's a true HP car but is missing many of the HP items but it has signs of being a one time strip warrior, i.e., the lower half of a welded/bolted on scattershield designed to fit around the stock bell housing. It was painted many years ago to cover the original powder blue but supposedly has been in this area since new and was reputed to have been drag raced a lot. How many powder blue HP '61 Starliners could there be with that heritage in this area? Who knows, we may never know for sure if this is the actual car.

Thanks again for checking.
