Vacuum advance/timing problem

Ok, here is my problem. I change the points in the 390 and check it with a dwell meter. It is fine, the car wont stay running with the vacuum advance hooked up. If I pull the hose off of the advance, it starts to run ok.

The timing is set at 6 degrees timing with the advance plugged up and car warmed up. That is where the book says it should be and that is where it always has been. Anybody ever have this problem where the vacuum advance makes the car die?
