road tube? (long)

I have a 65 f-100 with a 352. I know the old engine is tired and has lots of blowby. Im going to replace it with a 390 when time and money are less of an option. But right now i need to get it home from NC. It has a road tube? instead of a pcv. is the valve cover supposed to connect to the tube soemhow or does it vent to the outside. mine is open and smoke is going everywhere. Im ashamed to drive it. I cant be a gross polluter. Can some one tell me how to fix this thing? until i get time to replace the engine. Thanks
