He said he has a non GT, that's a GT air cleaner

It sounds as though he may have the correct air cleaner. It looks just like the one in the photo except it has a round snorkel that tapers down and does not have a heat stove (289 air cleaner snorkels do not taper down and have a heat stove fitting on the bottom and fullsize 390 snorkels are round without the stove fitting and also do not taper down in size).
