Stuck valves

When engines sit for years the valve stems get corroded and stick in their bores causing the problem you describe. Some of the valves probably were slow to close and hit pistons, causing the pushrods to bend.

You should try a compression check after you get more pushrods to determine wether you have any bent valves. Squirt some lubrication on the valve stems before trying to start the engine again.
