The only way to really figure the displacement of an FE is to measure the bore and stroke, as casting numbers from the 427 can be found on a 352. Look for the casting number on the side of the block, it should read something like C6AE. This may not be the number on your block, but it will give you a year of production. My example is from 1966 (C= 1960, and 6= 1966). After you have determined that, look for a date code near the oil filter mount, it should be a letter and a number.

There are many Ford websites that interpret casting numbers, and the guys on this site know a lot. Check out Steve Christ's book How to Rebuild Big-Block Ford Engines. Got one myself, and its got some really good stuff.
