I believe the H/P pump has a tendency to overpressurize the "free plug" type caps at the end of the oil galleys, causing them to leak. The H/V pumps more oil, but doesn't have the h/p spring in the bypass. I've tested my 427 with the rocker arms pluged and the timing cover removed and it's amazing how much oil pumps past the cam brgs at the front of the block alone. If you don't put restricters in the rocker arms, even more is lost to the clearences there.
I believe you should restrict the heads and run the H/V pump to maxiumize the oil pressure to the mains.
