RCV, I don't know it this will help you on your 429 or not. I had the same problem with a FE years ago, but it wasn't the lifters it was the push rods. The FE type valve train do not allow any adjustment, if the lash is too loose you have to get a little longer push rod to take up the slack. And of course it the valve don't seat the you have to get a slightly smaller Push rod length. Their is a rocker that will slide on the FE type bar that is adjustable kind like the old Y blocks had. Sounds to me that you have valve train slop. I'm not familiar with the 385 series engines wheather or not they are adjustable or not. And I remember having to pre-oil the lifter so they would pump up. Maybe this will give you some more ideas. RC |
