390 Engine buildup

I have never worked on FE's before so I need all of the advice and info you guys can give me. I bought a 67 Galaxie that has a 390 2v in it. I plan to rebuild the motor with a 4v intake, cam, headers, etc. Basically warm the motor up. I bought a factory FE 4v intake at Carlisle last weekend with the casting numbers C6AE-9425-G along with an "S". Is it a good intake? The 390 has '72 truck heads on it. The guy who had owned the car before me thought the engine was blowing smoke because of poor sealing valves, so he traded the original heads for a set of rebuilt ones. It wasnt the heads, its the rings. I also have 2 361 FE truck motors. One has 68 passenger car heads on it "C8AE-H". I am not sure what heads the other 361 has. They are also 2v's unfortunately. I have several 600 cfm carbs too, 2 holleys and an Edelbrock. With what I have (obviously I will need a cam, a set of headers, some lower gears, and a descent torque converter) how good well running of a motor can I build. I am going to stick with a hydraulic cam since all three motors are hydraulic, and I have heard it is costly to convert to solid lifter in an FE. I dont want to build a world beater, but something that will have some balls. Can anyone tell me where I can get info on DOVE products? Would it be worth porting the heads and the intake? Any tips on going about porting fe heads and intakes? Lastly, all of the books I've read about fe heads say that all common FE heads (passenger & 390 GT) have the same port and valve sizes, and that later low riser and CJ heads just have larger intake/exhaust valves than the standard heads. Is this true?

Thanks a lot!
Ted
