I know a 3U crank does not have a 3.984 stroke.

Steve Christ's book lists the applications of a 3U crank. I don't have it handy, but I recall it might be a 360 casting. It's possible it is a 390, but I'm pretty darned sure the 390 crank was a 2U casting of some variety. I know for certain that all 428 cranks are 1U items of some variety (either 1U, 1UA, or 1UB).
