Did you actually measure the stroke or are you just reading 410 on the pistons? Ford lowered the compression on the 390 pickup truck engines in the 70's by using 410 pistons. I know this for a fact because in the late 70's a friend complained about his mid 70's pickup (which he bought new) not having any power. When we tore the engine down, we found 410 pistons. The difference in the pin height saved Ford big bucks by not having to make lower compression pistons. We put in passenger car pistons and the truck had more than enough power to pull his car trailer. He did have to go to premium fuel though. How many people have bought what they thought was a 410 because of these pistons in a 390 truck engine? |
