I too,would have to give a 396 the advantage with all else being equal. Know why? Cylinder heads. The Chevy has a better flowing head on it,thus it can move more air with less camshaft timing than a similar FE can. However,he said that the guy is building a Chevelle,which is a little bit heavier than a Camaro,so the extra HP may get absorbed into the extra weight. A 396 will live in the 400+ HP zone because its got a who's who list of HD parts,whereas the 390 does'nt. It really all boils down to the tires on the car. Hard radials against sticky meats? You know which one will have an automatic advantage. |
