352HP block improvement? |
By Mike McQuesten - 02/18/2001 5:26:25 PM; IP 63.50.125.22 |
I'm planning a rebuild for my original 1960 352 High Performance short block. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to use head studs? I understand that one of the short comings of a '60/prior block is the shallow head bolt holes and the lack of counterboring. This design flaw may allow for the threads at the top of the block to pull up when the head bolts are torqued. So would using correct length studs be a good idea to promote even torque thus less chance of head gasket failure? I've already planned on modifying the block to accept the supieor camshaft retaining thrust plate system introduced in '63. One last question, if using head studs is a good idea, is there a company that makes the right length studs for this application? Thanks. |
