electrical problems

guys:
i have this electrical prob in my 75F250 4x4 truck that has me totally baffled. it seems like when i let the headlights stay on for little more than 10 min and they start to get 'hot' the lights cycle on and off; they basically flicker. i tried all the usual stuff:new alt, new external regulator, good ground straps, good battery cables, no apparent broken wires ect. i havent had NOreason to suspect a bad battery bec the truck starts and runs fine. i am beginning to think there is a short but if i had a short, wouldnt i be blowing fuses or having other accessories act weird? i am at my wits end here bec imagine having to drive only in the day bec i cant drive at night! any help would be sincerely appreciated!
