I was looking at a '67 Mustang 390 engine that was out of the car a few days ago and it hat the VIN stamped on the machined surface where the bell housing bolts to the block. the numbers are a bit small and they are just about an inch below the cyl. head surface. They should be visible with a mirror. Drivers side at the fire wall. I hope this helps.
