Ditzler painted the original engines...

..and Ditzler is still selling paint.

It's rare that any paint company doing business back in 1969 hasn't been bought out, converted into something else, and then bankrupted in order to make the owners a buncha bucks in the "churning" process, but Ditzler/PPG is still with us, and you can still buy the (three?) various "blues of Ford" found on FEs of different years. Let's not forget the reds, blacks, and golds which have also been spotted on original versions of the FE engine.

I don't have details handy, but I supect Ditzler can supply you with a (non aerosol) can of paint which will offer you the EXACT color you are seeking. Don't settle for that "light blue" or "dark/corporate blue" spray can junk. Those all seem to be generic colors. There really does exist that rich middile blue color you seek (but can't find in aerosol form), and Ditzler apparently sticks pretty darned well to your block (unlike that aerosol crap).

As usual, I'm talking thru my hat. I have NOT yet purchased any Ditzler paint - though if you look at the south interior wall of my garage, you will find that I've color tested many available cans of aerosol paint which claim to be related to Ford Blue (some of which advertise themselves as being the PERFECT match but grille you when you try to return the unopened can because it's the same Krylon you tried a week earlier - screw you National Parts Depot!) but nothing comes close to that middle shade of blue I seek so badly.

Super Ford (R.I.P.) has often written about the proper Ditzler paints to use, and they even speak of the proper engine compartment black in the various paint articles, too. When I get the time I positively WILL post info on the paint specifics.

Shoe.
