Ford 0 matic cam out in 1951, Cruse 0 Matic came out in 1958. Both were good transmisions Ford o was a little weak intill 1957 when Ford offered the suppercharger. Cruse 0 was a good trans and unless you had 450 + hp would hold up. ( I never lost a cruse0 raceing or otherwise.)The cruse-o became the C4.
Yes the C6 is better than the earlyer ones but in most cases it is overkill. With the exception of the C6 most Ford trans use the same bands and clutches 1957 to today.
