not to disagree but just for discussion - I've read a number of articles lately that maintain that dished pistons and a small centrally located combustion chamber are the better power producers - (that IS what the NASCAR guys use to get over 700 hp from a restricted 355 engine). Something to do with the fact that a sphere has the least surface area of any shape, and surface area, as in a large comb chamber, takes heat hence energy out of the combustion process. Also keeping the combustion "in" the piston exerts more of the combustion force on the piston where it does the most work. |
