Well it will take probably take me all winter to get the thing together. I'll post my progress. I've got a bunch of things to relearn as I haven't built an engine in more than twenty years.
And of course I have to do a lot of other things. Right now I am in the midst of taking the SCJ manifolds off my '66 Galaxie and putting on a pair of 427 cast iron factory headers. That should kill my spare time for the next two weeks what with rebuilding the manifold header pipes. And I've got to rebuild my '88 F-150's rear axle. Its a one wheel drive and I'm installing a locker and changing the ratio tfrom 3.08 to 3.73. Never done this kind of work so I'll be kinda slow.
The hardest part has been finding all of the pieces. I've moved four times and the boxes have been repacked and relabeled so things are not always what they say. I also had some parts get soaked in a trailer that leaked. So I've got to clean that up as I go. Some of the pot metal and aluminum parts corroded real bad and that's going to slow me down as I try to repair or try to find replacement pieces. Oh well, its no big deal, the people in NYC have real problems.
I found a set of MR riser heads but they are expensive. I'll have to see what my heads might bring on eBay. Maybe if I sell both sets they might cover the MR heads. I wonder if ported and cc'd heads are worth more than the stock CJ heads?
And I'm still wondering about the cam. I know it is a lot of money but a roller is the best way to get the valves open quickly so the cylinders can fill better. I think the 454 will not be ovver cammed but I don't know that.
Any way thanks for your interest. |
