Just a thought ... I bought a 1968 TorinoGT at Carlisle last September. It was a California car from the title. The VIN is 8H43Y109581 nad DSO is 71. The interior is in great shape and the body is good. Well the drive home told me immediatly "it needs more power" It had a 390 2v under the hood. In all my enthusiasm I ordered Summit racing's finest. Edelbrook Aluminum heads, Performer RPM manifold and cam package, MSD coil, distributor and box, Edelbrook 750 4 barrel, new roller timing chain set, and all the dress up goodies. Well we got the old heads off and found the pistons had a good ammount of slap ...out comes the block...off to the shop for a .30over bore, deck and cleaning and new forged pistons, bearins etc... When we went to put the block back in is when we found that the damn thing had 2 holes for the motor mounts and with a little help from the forums ..we found that the block has a casting number of C3AE under the number one cylinder ...another casting of C2AE is on the front of the block in the upper right corner ...I've been told now that the block was cast in 1963?!?!.... Before we put the block back in we assembled it and the heads, manifold, and headers fit well. Now that im at the point of no return, blocks in the car, motor mounts fit after some modification, heads are on and headers in ready to be tightened ..."Have I Missed Anything???""Have I done the right thing?" We are going to use the original rockers and pushrods. Any observations would be appreciated. BD |
