Hot Tanked Block |

No, no, no Readers.....not a "Hot Tanked Blond!" It's an engine problem. I've just rebuilt my 428 using a block from the Southern States. The former owner must have been using water vs antifreeze as the water jacket insides were very rusty. Typical of Hot Tanking, a lot of rust gets crudded up like mud with the hot tanking solution and doesn't come out. After a few weeks (during the rebuild, not after it was installed) I noticed that some of this rust glop had dried out and would actually fall out of the block when I turned the engine over on the stand. I got out what I could and the engine is now in the car, but not running yet. I want to further flush it so I don't plug up my rad. Do you think fastening a garden hose to the intake manifold inlet and leaving the water pump off would accomplish this (yes, messy, I know)? Or is there some sort of temporary filter I can put in the rad hose for a while to filter out this crap? Any ideas? |
