| Hood scoop wiring -- Dano, 09/21/2005
I have a 69 Mach 1 that doesn't have the original hood scoop. I just bought a cobra jet bolt on hood scoop and standard hood. Does anyone here know if wireing harnesses are available for the signal lights on the back of the scoop? I need the part that connects to the firewall wiring plug. |
| | RE: Hood scoop wiring -- raycfe, 09/21/2005
Its 2 harness. A short one with both sockets, which will end up by the master cylinder. And a longer one that will go all the way to the right and left front turn signals. |
| 428scj -- Chris Domine, 09/21/2005
I have a 428scj motor complete on a stand. Needs rebuilding. Has an offenhauser aluminum intake and original high flow exhaust manifolds. Does anyone know what this motor is worth? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
| | RE: 428scj -- Gerry Proctor, 09/21/2005
You can gauge values based upon what you might find sold (not offered, but sold) on ebay for similar engines, Chris.
But you need to be double damn sure of what you have and that means complete casting number disclosure. Date codes will help too since the real market for such an engine is with someone doing a restoration.
The aftermarket has filled many voids in the FE world so there are alternatives were there were none before. |
| | | RE: 428scj -- James67, 09/24/2005
One thing to look for on a SCJ is a crank balancing weight that slides over the crank snout between the harmonic balancer and timing chain cover. The SCJ was the only FE engine to have this. |
| | What makes you think it is an SCJ? -- Royce Peterson, 09/22/2005
There are many differences between a CJ and an SCJ. 1. Have you taken the oil pan off to verify the crankshaft, and rods? 2. Does it have the correct harmonic balancer and flexplate? 3. Do you have the original intake? 5. How about the carburetor and distributor? 6. What are the casting numbers and date codes on the heads and block? 7. What are the date codes and casting numbers on the exhaust manifolds? 8. What is the bore size? Does it need to be rebuilt?
All these questions need answers to find the value.

My father used to work for ford motor company in detroit, he got it when he worked there and told me it was an scj. As far as casting numbers i havent gotten any off it yet, but will if it will help. It does need rebuilding, has been sitting for about ten years. |

| Body Buck Tag -- Charlie, 09/20/2005
Can anyone point me to information on "Body Buck Tag" for 1969 Mustang. I have this tag riveted to the right finside fender. I emailed a picture of it to Kevin Marti and he said it looks like a legitimate Buck tag. I have no clue what a buck tag is, and the date on it is different than the Marti Report build date? Thanks Charlie |
| snorkel air valve -- Chuck, 09/19/2005
I have what is believed to be a 68 snorkel with a air valve that is to be applied with 2 screws on the underside with a rod that runs inside to operate the flapper. Does anyone know what car or the correct year or anything about this style as I have asked a few of the experts and they have no idea. The gentleman I bought it from says it is a 68, for a mustang 390 thanks Chuck |
| | Hard to say. Several duct assys. ('snorkel') used that valve. [n/m] -- Mr F, 09/19/2005

Well could you tell me the secret |

Mr F That is exactly what my snorkel looks like, I have it sitting in front of me comparing it to the pic you put up and it is exactly the same, but is has the air valve application underneath thanks Chuck |

| | | | | | | Maybe not a real winner.... -- Hawkrod, 09/29/2005
If it looks like the snorkel in the picture but has a vacuum motor on the bottom then it is not a Mustang part, it is from a 4Bbl fullsize car with a Z code engine. They look just like the 390GT part but have the three holes on the bottom for the valve. Hawkrod |
| | | | | | | | No 'maybe' about it - vac. motor was mandatory, early '68... [n/m] -- Mr F, 09/30/2005

| | | | | | | | | I don't think so.... -- Hawkrod, 09/30/2005
The S code did not use the motor that I can find. There are no references in the parts book (only one snorkle C8OZ-C) and the vacuum diagrams make no mention of it in any versions I have. Hawkrod |
| | RE: 70 up snorkel air valve -- raycfe, 09/19/2005
This is print of a snorkel valve that ford starting in 1970 on alot of models. Fits on top with a hooked rod to the flap.

| | | RE: 70 up snorkel air valve -- Chuck, 09/19/2005
Thanks Raycfe, the one I have is underneath, this thing seems to be a mystery to everyone I have talked to |
| | | | Valve underneath -- Royce Peterson, 09/22/2005
Many applications used the valve underneath in 68 - 69. There are a couple dozen different snorkles during the period. There is a TSB showing the elimination of this device midyear 1968 on 289- 302 applications.
One thing for sure, if yours has the vacuum pulloff underneath it is not the correct snorkle for any FE application.
Royce |
| | | | | Well, no - that vac. motor was spec'd. on 390GT, for sure. [n/m] -- Mr F, 09/22/2005

| | | | | RE: Valve underneath -- Hawkrod, 09/29/2005
Sorry Royce but you are mistaken on this point. A Mustang or Torino didn't have the valve underneath but a Z code Galaxie did and they are the same snorkel as a GT 390 except for the extra pull off. Hawkrod |
| | | | | | FE trucks used it too -- Barry B, 09/30/2005
starting in '68, the 360 and 390 snorkels got the vacuum motor too. |
| | | | | | You are probably right.... -- Royce P, 09/30/2005
I meant no 390GT / 428CJ applications for the Fairlane / Comet / Ponycars had the vacuum puloff on the underside of the snorkle. My knowledge of Galaxies and trucks is limited. I'll have to take your word on that one!
Bottom line, it's wrong for Chuck's application if it has the vacuum puloff.

| Freeze Plugs -- Patrick, 09/17/2005
I ordered freeze plugs for my 351W from NPD, and they sent me one marked for 260, 289, & 302. I called to ask them if they would fit my 351, and they said yes. Is it true that freeze plugs for 260s-302s would fit? |
| | RE: Freeze Plugs -- EDzierzek, 09/17/2005
Yes they will fit. If you said 351 cleveland , I would say no. |
| | | RE: Freeze Plugs -- Patrick, 09/17/2005
so, i am assuming that they are an exact fit, correct? thanks for your help. |

| Engine Assembley Date -- Charlie, 09/14/2005
On page 10 of 1969 mustang cobra jet fererence manual by Joe Sokora, he talks about the casting date code near the oil filter adaptor boss AND the assembley date on a boss on the front left side. I have found the casting date code, but I am having trouble finding the engine assembley date.
Do all Ford blocks have this date? I have cleaned of the small flat area where Joe says the assembley date is, and I do not see anything. Please comment.

| C6 to a 351C -- johnbach, 09/13/2005
will a C6 from a Lincoln 460 bolt onto a 351C? one source says the C6 has 3 different bolt patterns. |
| | RE: C6 to a 351C -- raycfe, 09/13/2005
You will need a 302/351W/351C small block C6. The lincoln 460 will not fit. Just my 2 cents |
| back fire at 4500 RPMs -- Wayne, 09/13/2005
I have a 73, mach 1, with a big block 514inch, carb 870 street avenger, C6 trans, shift kit, 2800 rpm tork converter. When I do a hard lanch in drive, the car back fires at 4500 rpms between the first and second shift, also loses some power into third. Carb Jets are 80 prim. and 84 secondary timming 14 BFT total timming advane 34 BFT. |
| | RE: Jets seem kind of small for that app. -- Gerry Proctor, 09/13/2005
You might be going lean. But most carb problems are actually in the ignition. May have a breakup going on that's causing misfire and crossfiring. You're going to have to run the diagnostics to find out where the real problem is. |
| Vehicle History Trace -- Charlie, 09/12/2005
I am trying to trace back the ownership of my mustang. I know one of the owners lives in NJ. I filed out a form to have the trace done, they sent it back to me saying they cant give out personal information? How do you perfom a history trace? |
