 390 Upgrade -- Packman, 07/15/2003
Getting ready to install intake, carb, cam and lifters. I have read the discussion threads on this forum about using the victor reinz gaskets for the heads. What should I use on the valve covers and intake? Anything special to keep the big block 390 from leaking oil around the intake and valve cover areas? Anything else I should know before I do this upgrade in my 73 F100 with a stock 390?

Sounds like a boat application or service block.g -- Royce Peterson, 07/15/2003
The block from a late '65 427 Galaxie would be a side oiler but marine applications could have used MR heads on a top oiler block or it could be the block was replaced. Thirty eight years down the road it doesn't matter much, all the parts are desirable and nice to own. No way they came together in a car though.

I have a Contour with the Zetec engine.
The VCT solenoid is not working (Resistance is infinite).

1) Is there a way to just replace the solenoid or do I have to replace the whole assemply?
Where do I get a replacement part? I can't find anything at Fords or Motocrafts web parts store.

2) Is it normal, that the camshaft is flipping forward by the pressure of the valve when a cam goes past the maximum opening position? Isn't the VCT mechanism supposed to be spring loaded so that it also would work without oil pressure?

Does anyone know?

Thanks, Benno.
