Weiand Stealth for anything but an FE is a great manifold, but for the FE they just used an old divided plenum design left over from the 70's. Not even a real dual plane, just a flat divided plenum single plan POS Not worth it IMO

RE: block coolant flushing -- John, 03/07/2005
I've tried just about everything, even the two part cleaners (second additive is to neutralize the first one). They all seem to help for a short period. Unfortunatley I know of no substitute for having the block hot-tanked if you want a really good job. Since you probably dont' want to do that, try some of the two part cleaners available. I take it you thought the rad was the problem and had it recored. Maybe you can find an old crappy one and install it for the flushing procedure. Not as much work as taking the engine all apart to hot-tank it, yet still a pain....you could just have the heads hot-tanked. They seem to be the major contributor to over-heating. Oh, and don't let your engine idle with cold water from a garden hose in it. The engine won't warm up and will wear at a more advanced rate.

According to my research only one 1961 Ford set a NHRA National in the early to mid 60's. Don Sauer set the A/SA record on May 18, 1963 at Pomona, CA in his 1961 Ford. He set the record at 13.53 seconds.

Using the NHRA classification guide and my 1961 NHRA rulebook I find that several 1961 Ford body styles using the 390/401 engine fit the A/SA class.

Interesting isn't it, that in reality, Ford did not offer the HP 390/375 or 401 horse engine with an automatic trans? It was stick or nothing for HP apps.

NHRA National Records -- Travis Miller, 03/07/2005
It should be noted that while NHRA had been allowing national records to be set in the dragster, altered, etc. classes since the mid 50's, Stock/SS records were not set until Oct 1961 at York US 30 Dragstrip. And that was done as an experiment to see how much acceptance would come of it. Needless to say, it was a success and still continues to this day.

 Too easy.. -- dennie, 03/05/2005
should be at the inspection opening either on the hoghead itself or on the carrier, if you don't have a plug someone has combined 2 different versions. As for the seals, i assume you mean the axle bearing seals, there are different versions, mine were a seal & bearing combo pressed onto the axle.
 RE: oil level in a ford 9 inch -- R. Hunt, 03/10/2005
Fill the the rear end through the fill hole until oil drips out of it. Test drive and check for axle seal leaks check oil level. Add more oil if needed. Don't forget to reinstall the oil plug before test driving.

The bearings should be the sealed type (internally lubricated) and get no oil from the rearend for lubrication.
